The exhibition deals, in a comprehensive manner, with the subject of "weddings", from the old days right up to the present. There are copies of family trees, marriage contracts, wedding proverbs, photographs, wedding presents, bride’s gowns and complete bridal trousseaus from several generations that bear witness to religious and social customs, sentiments and developments concerning getting married.
The mostly regional aspect of the exhibition is supplemented and extended, among others, by reproductions of paintings showing the festive procession on the occasion of the arrival to Vienna of Princess Isabel of Parma in her capacity as the bride of the Emperor-to-be Joseph II, and by art-historic and contemporary documents.
