In 1991, a former farm building behind the municipal office was remodelled and converted into a beautiful museum location.

The five exhibition rooms together with the drift which is now open to visitors provide a good overview of the community, parish, school, clubs and societies, small trade, private households, agriculture and mining scenes of the Ilz market community and its surrounding areas. The Ilz coal fields extend over a total area of around six square kilometres of which about half were industrially exploited. The lignite was used both as a domestic fuel and for industrial purposes; mining stopped in 1964.

The town hall hosts a museum gallery and, from time to time, organises interesting exhibitions of local artists.
